To the common Evangelical, Roman Catholicism is…mysterious. Its aesthetic nature as found in its liturgy has the air of something ancient, and the claims of the Roman Church speak of the same thing. To some, this may be appealing. To others, however, this antiquity is nothing more than a mix of paganism and Christian theology that took place over the course of many centuries.
Maybe you are someone who is thinking about becoming a Roman Catholic. Perhaps you have been confronted by the arguments of Roman Catholic apologists and are convinced that the Roman Catholic Church is the true Church that was founded by Jesus Christ and his apostles. Perhaps your pastor and your fellow Evangelical friends have not been able to give you a good answer to the claims being made by Catholicism. If this is you, I would ask that you please take the time to hear both sides. Most of the time, Evangelicals are focused on apologetics against non-Christian religions (i.e. Islam, New Age, atheism, etc.) and ‘Christian’ cults (Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, etc.). It is no wonder that your pastor and friends do not have an answer for you! They have never studied Roman Catholicism or Church history in depth! Much of the literature that is out there on Roman Catholicism such as the works of Jack Chick and Dave Hunt are highly ill-informed, and Roman Catholic apologists capitalize on this and characterize all opposition to Catholicism as such. These Roman apologists will even go as far as to use ad hominem and label anyone who opposes the claims of their Church as “anti-Catholic”. So, please take some time to read through the articles written on this website, and read a few books written by informed Protestants that are recommended. Don’t be too hasty to convert. You are making a decision that will last for eternity!
