To the common Evangelical, Eastern Orthodoxy is…mysterious, even foreign. Its aesthetic nature as found in its liturgy has the air of something ancient, and its claims speak of the same thing. To some, this may be appealing. To others, however, this antiquity is nothing more than a mix of paganism and Christian theology that took place over the course of many centuries.
Maybe you are someone who is thinking about becoming Eastern Orthodox. Perhaps you have been confronted by the arguments of Eastern Orthodox apologists and are convinced that the Eastern Orthodox Church is the true Church that was founded by Jesus Christ and his apostles. Perhaps your pastor and your fellow Evangelical friends have not been able to give you a good answer to the claims being made by Orthodoxy. If this is you, I would ask that you please take the time to hear both sides. Most of the time, Evangelicals are focused on apologetics against non-Christian religions (i.e. Islam, New Age, atheism, etc.) and ‘Christian’ cults (Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, etc.). It is no wonder that your pastor and friends do not have an answer for you! They have never studied Eastern Orthodoxy or Church history in depth! There is not much literature out there on the subject of Orthodoxy, and some of what is out there is ill-informed. So, please take some time to read through the articles written on this website, and read a few books written by informed Protestants that are recommended. Don’t be too hasty to convert. You are making a decision that will last for eternity!
If you are
someone who has been confronted with the claims of Eastern Orthodoxy and just want informed answers, then you have come to the right
place. This website covers just about every issue that divides Evangelical Christianity from Eastern Orthodoxy. After
each article, there are books recommended that accurately address the subject at hand as well as free online articles and audio. The Scriptures say to always “be ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you,
yet with gentleness and reverence” (1 Peter
